Tips to Dry Out Your Wet Basement Quick
With the recent heavy rains in Nebraska lately, many have found themselves having to deal with wet basements. With over 20 years of experience in basement waterproofing and foundation repair, we thought we would share these tips to help you dry out your basement quick.
If your basement is just damp, you can start by opening the windows and doors. Exchange the damp air for dry air by using fans to move the damp air to the outside. You can also open up the basement furnace vents and use the fan mode on the furnace controls to help move the moist air out.
Investing in a dehumidifier would also be a good idea, especially if you experience this type of thing often. Dehumidifiers are relatively inexpensive, usually costing only a couple hundred dollars. You can easily see how they can offset the cost by completely drying out the basement and by keeping the humidity lower.
If you notice any standing water, you may have a bigger problem. Getting the water out of your basement is top priority. Along with opening windows and using fans to dry out your basement, you can use towels and buckets, rag mops and a wet/dry vacuum to help clean up the mess. The quicker you can get the water outside, the better.
If you can’t step on the floor without getting your shoes wet, it’s time to call the professionals. A professional crew will not only do all the work but they also know how to eliminate the problem in the future. Remember, a little water may not be a huge problem, but a lot of water, that’s another thing all together.
